Elon Musk

I recently read an article, which I’m sharing with you here, by Kyle Chayka with TheVerge.com.  Chayka’s article; Elon Musk made history launching a car into space. Did he make art too?, explores Musk’s recent Space X launch, which was not only a technological wonder but became an artistic one too!

As part of this launch, Musk not only lifted his rocket into space, its payload was one of his cherry-red Tesla Roadsters, complete with a space-suited up dummy, casually sitting in the driver’s seat while listing to David Bowie’s “Life on Mars”. Once up, a carefully planned video made it’s way back to earth and there in the Tesla’s background was earth itself. He basically had us looking up and back at ourselves at the same time. No easy feat!

Kyle Chayka covers Musk’s adventurous endeavor much more broadly than I need to here, but I have to offer my answer to his question of if Musk and his team made art? Yes, I think they did.  Art is a creative visual or audible object or experience. It’s narrative purpose to mostly connect with our emotions or mental thought. Trust me, I have seen way less than this spectacular visual experience called art, that’s for sure. This is one that begs us to reach for the stars - literally!

Live an artful life,

Tom
